Education/Training Requirements for Certified Staff:

TYPES OF CREDIT

Continuing Education (CE)
State Requirement: 150 hours every five years

Instructional staff certified or recertified after September 1999 must receive 150 hours of continuing education every five years to qualify for state recertification. Keeping documentation of these hours is an individual, not a district, responsibility. As a state approved provider, the district may approve selected workshops for CE credit. NOTE: CE credit is not the same as comp credit.

Comp Time (Comp)
Local Requirement: 14 hours for 2005-06

Note: Not all professional learning offering in the catalog receive comp hours.

All instructional staff are contracted (paid) for 187 days. The district or campus does not provide staff development during the regular school calendar for two of those days, or fourteen (14) hours. These hours are in lieu of being on campus August 12, 2005 and January 16, 2006. These hours must be earned outside the regular school day for which you are already being paid. To earn approved COMP time for August 12, please complete 7 hours between May 31 and August 8, 2005. To earn the January 16 comp time, please complete 7 additional hours between May 31, 2005 and January 9, 2006. Staff not completing these hours by the above dates will attend sessions for professional learning on those days. If hours are complete, you need not attend. They are yours!

Gifted/Talented (G/T)

Required: .30 hours plus 6 hours annually for primary instructors of identified gifted students
.6 hours plus 3 hours annually for elementary cluster teachers
.6 hours for principals, assistant principals, counselors, program administrators
These hours are acquired during the contracted year for which they apply.

How do I know what credit I receive for attending a session?

Look in the Credits portion of each class description. A class may earn one or more types of credit.

Ex:
CE: # hrs. Comp: # hrs.

Ex:
CE: # hrs. G/T: # hrs (N&N) Comp: # hrs.

If there is another code after G/T -[G/T (C&I)]- it denotes the category of G/T credit such as Curriculum & Instruction or Nature and Needs (N&N), etc.

Enjoy the vast variety of sessions offered to you for professional learning this summer.
